Phone Power – Tell It Like It Is – by Paul Jenkins Phone Power 300x58 Phone Power *

Phone Power has been around since 2005 and they are based just out of Los Angeles. Since then they have grown and in 2010 they bought out Voip.com which they now also manage. They are cheaper than Vonage but they still offer contracts which of course are the better deals. They offer a lot of features for free which other internet providers don’t or that you have to pay extra for.

Why It Rocks

You can use Phone Power on multiple devices and some at the same time. You can use Phone Power on your smartphone with their iPhone app. You can use Phone Power on your computer with their softphone. And of course you can use it at home on a regular phone. But the best part is that they provide all these features for free.

You can travel easily with Phone Power. Phone Power offers a zippy travel adapter for $19.99 or $9.99 with select plans which means you can connect an actual phone to your computer while you’re away from home. It works like a MagicJack and it means that you can keep your phone set up at home and also use an actual phone while you’re away as well. Its great for extended stays and for doing business on the road.

Phone Power allows you to BYOD. If you’re a do-it-yourself kind of person this can work for you. And this way you’ll also save on the shipping and handling charges and don’t have to worry about returning the adapter. You’ll also have more control over your internet phone and be able to use your adapter again if you change providers.

The price is alright, especially if you get a contract. Phone Power offers a 2 year contract at $14.95 a month with a lot of features. Not bad for all the features they offer including phone support 7 days a week.

Where It Strikes Out

The Phone Power softphone can only be used with Windows PCs. So if you’re a MAC user, you’re out of luck.

Phone Power does not offer a free trial offer, unlike many other providers. Although they do have a “Satisfaction Guaranteed” clause which means if you have a contract you have 30 days to cancel without getting charged a cancellaiton fee of $99.

Phone Power does not offer international virtual numbers. If you have relatives in another country and want to get an area code for that location so they can call you, you’ll have to go somewhere else. However, they do offer one hour of free international calling with all their plans and you can also add on for more global calling.

The Last Word
Phone Power offers competitive rates and tons of features, many of which you usually have to pay extra for with other companies.

My Straight-Up Advice: If you are looking for an easy setup and a good deal where you can use your phone on multiple devices this could definitely work. Although, if you want to get the best deals you’ll have to lock in.
